Date

Kelly Fowler, M.Ed., LDT, CALT

Fort Worth, Texas –  Key School and Training Center names Kelly Fowler, M.Ed., LDT, CALT as the first Assistant Director of Training and Outreach. Fowler comes to Key School with over 30 years of experience in education, specializing in private dyslexia therapy since 1998. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University, master’s degree at Kings College and Certified Academic Language Therapy (CALT) credential through LEAD Dallas with our current Director of Training and Outreach, Dr. Melanie Royal.

This new role creates an opportunity for Key School and Training Center to be leading conversations involving learning differences in our communities. Fowler said, “I want to open the eyes of everyone around us that we have the resources to help whether that be a workshop, webinar, training, or helpful tools.”

“I want Key School and Training Center to be a major player in sharing our depth of knowledge,” Fowler said. “We are sitting on a diamond mine of resources and expertise, eager to share with communities outside of these walls.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Kelly to Key School and Training Center at this pivotal moment in our organization’s growth. Creating this first-ever Assistant Director of Training and Outreach position reflects our commitment to expanding our impact across Fort Worth and beyond. Kelly’s three decades of specialized experience in dyslexia therapy, combined with her passion for educator development and community partnership, make her the ideal leader to help us scale our training programs and share our evidence-based practices with more schools and families who need them. This hire represents our next chapter—moving from serving our local community to becoming a regional hub for dyslexia education and advocacy,” said Beth Lamb, APR, Executive Director.

The Training Center is currently training 14 educators to become a dyslexia therapist or practitioner. We have two cohorts in their first or second year of the program on track to graduate in May 2026 or May 2027. These educators come to us from either our K-12 program or neighboring districts across Dallas-Fort Worth and Tarrant County, impacting approximately over 80 students per academic year.

“I have continuously supported students, parents, teachers, and administrators throughout my 30+ years—just as Dr. Royal did when I first became a CALT. Now, back in Texas, I am excited to carry forward that legacy of support across Fort Worth and the state through my work with Key School and Training Center,” Fowler said.

About Key School and Training Center

Founded in 1966, Key School began as an after-school and summer program that focused on tutoring students with dyslexia. The founders, Mary Ann Key and Mildred Gardner, through encouragement and support from Dr. John M. Richardson, designed the individualized program based on the training they received at Texas Scottish Rite for Children’s Language Therapy program. Recognizing the community’s need to expand services beyond the school and summer program, Key expanded in 2018 and began a dyslexia therapy training program and outreach services while continuing Key School’s exceptional education program. In September of 2021, the school and training center was relocated to the John M. Richardson Campus on Cooks Lane and John T. White Road. This campus allows the Key School and Training Center to expand existing services through training and professional development for teachers, administrators, and parents.
